Post Hair Transplant

Hair transplant surgery is truly a simple procedure and the healing process is actually quite rapid. The evening you arrive home after your surgery, it’s important just to relax and get some rest. Although the surgery is a relatively minor surgery, at the end of the day, it’s still surgery

If you’ve had hair transplant strip surgery (surgery that involves removing a strip of skin from the back and/or side of the head) it’s especially important to relax and avoid a lot of movement to prevent potential stretching of the enclosed area where the strip was removed, as that area, will ultimately result in scarring  (a minor scar). As there may be some minor bleeding through the night, you may want to place a towel on your pillow to catch any potential blood drops. If any bleeding occurs, it will be a very small amount.

It’s important to protect the newly placed hair transplant grafts as well as you continue with your day to day activities. In the vast majority of cases, you are able to go back to work the day after surgery, so life will resume as normal, so protect those grafts being hit and knocked out.

Typically by then end of the first full week, post hair transplant surgery, you will look just as you did prior to surgery. For those that required the shaving down of existing hair in order for the hair transplant surgeon to see where the new grafts will be placed, then those individuals would obviously go through a month or so of waiting for their former hair length to return to what it was.

Redness in the recipient area (area where the hair transplant grafts were placed) may occur. The length of time the redness remains varies from patient to patient based on ethnicity and skin tone.
Swelling may occur in some individuals as well around the fifth day post hair transplant surgery. This is typically the result of saline solution, which is used during surgery to expand the scalp, flushing through the face and naturally disposing throughout the body.

On or around the tenth day post hair transplant surgery, this is when the staples or sutures or typically removed. After they are removed, comes the hard part. Waiting for the new hair to grow! Most patients will typically see new hair growth around the fourth month post hair transplant with full growth results, appearing around the tenth month to one year mark.
