Bad Hair Transplant

Have you ever seen a bad hair transplant? If you have, odds are that you've seen that guy walking around with the corn row or doll hair look on his head. That look is a result of a primitive hair transplant technique called 'plugs'. Hair transplant plugs create an unatural looking appearance because a large group of hair follicles are placed into a single follicle location. Normally hair grows into natural clusters of 1-4 hairs, so when you try to place 20-25 hairs where a normal cluster of 2 hairs should be, things are going to look a bit strange.

With incredible advancements in the hair transplant industry in the past decade, many surgeons are now repairing bad hair transplants and moving forward, those who are receiving their first hair transplants, are seeing incredibly natural looking results. Hair follicles are being placed where natural hair follicles grow. A single hair follicle where a single hair follicle should be and a small cluster of 1-3 hairs where those follicles should be.

Another factor that defines a bad hair transplant is the scar that is left after hair transplant strip surgery. A quality hair transplant scar is one that is pencil thin and heals to a natural white color. High quality hair transplant scars are virtually undetectable unless pointed out by the patient.

Another outcome of hair transplant surgery that could result in a bad hair transplant, is the placement of the new hair line (should the patient require hair in the hair line area). A fifty year old patient should not have the hair line of a twenty year old. It's important that when a surgeon is drafting the hair line, that they take into consideration the age of the patient, the shape of their head and future potential hair loss.

Also effecting the results of a hair transplant is the angling of the hair. If transplanted hair is angled in a fashion that goes against the natural growth pattern of your hair, your hair in essence could become unmanageable. You can imagine that if your hair naturals falls from left to right and the hairs are transplanted pointing in the opposite direction, stray hairs could be sticking up everywhere!

At the end of the day, the best way to avoid a bad hair transplant, is to do your research, interview a good handfull of former patients of the hair transplant surgeon(s) you are considering and in general, jsut take your time and locate a highly qualified surgeon with a measurable track record.
