Regardless of the amount of grafts you require for your hair transplant surgery, generally speaking, you’re in for a long day at the clinic. Although the day will be long, it goes by quite quickly and you’ll be extremely comfortable and relaxed. The surgery will take its toll on you both physically and mentally only due to the length of time you are at the clinic and the mixed feelings of emotions that will be racing around in your head.

When I had my hair transplant surgery, I remember I was just completely exhausted when I went home that evening. I opted not to take the sleeping pill provided by my hair transplant surgeon as I felt very little pain or discomfort. Further, I also had to be at the clinic by 7 A.M. the next morning and after sitting in the same chair for ten hours so I was pretty tired anyhow and fell right to sleep.

As your hair transplant surgeon should instruct you, minimize any physical activities the night of your hair transplant surgery and a few weeks to follow for that matter. I was very careful not to tilt my head forward too much or swing it side to side. This was to minimize any potential stretching of the donor area and what would become my "scar". As a result, I have a pencil thin scar that is undetectable unless I point it out.

That night, I placed a towel over my pillow and slept on my back the entire night (or at least I think I did) attempting to keep my head as still as possible. The towel was in place to absorb any blood that may have trickled from the donor area. When I awoke, there was an extremely small amount of blood.

When you arrive home the night/day of your hair transplant surgery, just relax, avoid any physical activity, be conscious of your head movements, place a towel on your pillow or use a pillow you don’t mind throwing out and dream about the new hair that’s on its way!
